What could complicate a wedding more than a house full of secrets? The answer is not much! Of the latest shows at Lionheart, Wedding Secrets, will bring bouts of contagious laughter to the Norcross community this February as the newlywed characters attempt to reveal their families’ secrets. Continue reading to learn more about the show, its director, and how you can enjoy this delightful comedy this winter.
About Wedding Secrets
Bill and Susan are a young couple who impulsively decided to get married soon after they started dating. To save their families from the shock, they tell their families that they are only engaged. As they bring the two families together so that everyone can meet, our two protagonists learn that their secret is not the only piece of information that’s being withheld from everyone else.
With everything from separation to financial troubles, characters suffering menopause, and even Irish revolutionaries, it’s safe to say that Wedding Secrets brings a lot of common, and not so common, familial issues to light. The production at Lionheart will be the show’s Georgia premier, meaning that Wedding Secrets has yet to be performed in the state. Lionheart is excited and honored to be the first stage to produce the show, written by Joe Starzyk.
Words from the Director
Lionheart’s own Tanya Caldwell has been directing Wedding Secrets. She shares that Starzyk sent her Wedding Secrets for review, since he has written and directed for Lionheart before. Caldwell thought that Wedding Secrets would be a great show for the Valentine’s season, which is why Lionheart has chosen to put on the production for February. Because of the play’s adult themes though, Caldwell thinks that the show is best suited for adult audiences.
These same adult audience members might see a little of themselves in the characters, as the play discusses young adults dealing with their parents who have “empty nest syndrome.” Caldwell, who recently directed A Charlie Brown Christmas for Lionheart, is excited about the show and says working with the cast has been a breeze, as many of the members are long-time Lionheart vets.
