The 2016 season was a busy one for Lionheart Theatre. We had a number of successful shows, our amazing cast and crew were nominated for awards, and we have put big plans in the works for the upcoming season. As a way to close out the year and welcome in 2017, we’ve put our year in review, so that you can reflect back with us on the incredible 2016 season.

Our Shows Through the Year

Our highlight of the 2016 season is hands-down the line-up of shows we saw throughout the year. We kicked things off with Charlotte’s Web in February, where young actors in the community delivered a brilliant and heartwarming performance. The audience loved our creative set designs and props, and each cast and crew member worked diligently to produce a great show.

Love, Loss and What I Wore winded its way through the hearts of the audience as the characters recalled memories from old articles of clothing. There was laughing, there were a few tears, and there was a lot of applause. You Can’t Take it With You carried us into the summer, a play that taught us to appreciate things in life that aren’t material possessions. This 1936 Broadway classic was well-received by the Norcross community and brought the stage at Lionheart to life.

The Tempest, a Shakespeare classic, graced our stage in August. This performance was brought by child actors as it took a fun, musical spin on the classic story. Following up in September was Run for Your Wife, a hilarious British farce comedy. The character John Smith lead a double life and was kept busy trying to keep the two wives and lives separate from one another. The timing of this production, and the brilliant efforts of our actors, is what made this successful show possible.

October was jam-packed with showings of Bewitching as well as the Lawless Spirits History Tour. Bewitching demonstrated ingenious, short-story form, writings that revolved around the theme of Halloween. The Lawless Spirits History Tour of 2016 added some new stories to this beloved town-tradition, so our faithful Lionheart-followers could enjoy a fresh look on this seasonal show.

A Raisin in the Sun occupied our November calendar, and it gave our audiences something to think about over the Thanksgiving holidays. The characters in this story struggled with a financial decision that could have changed the courses of their lives. As a family unit, they had to work together in order to come to a peaceful conclusion.

This month, we wrap up the year with everybody’s favorite: A Charlie Brown Christmas. Charlie Brown and his gang set out to discover the true meaning of Christmas, which will spread holiday cheer throughout Norcross.

A Year in Review: Looking to 2017

To top it all off, 2016 also announced award nominations for the hard work of our cast and crew in the 2015 season. Everything from acting nominations, to nods for our amazing set design, and even a “Best Original Work” for The Harmony Baptist Church Ladies Auxiliary Christmas Jubilee, this year gave us the opportunity to congratulate these incredible men and women. This past season was so fantastic, we can’t wait to see what 2017 brings.
