Acting Through Radio Theatre

Date and Time:

Description:
Learn to act through the art of radio and readers theatre. A radio drama consists of many elements. These elements are speech, music, effects, oral sign posting, fades, and to add suspense, cliff hangers and silence. If all these elements are put together, they can create a clear picture in the mind of the story you are telling. This unique type of theatre originated in 1923 and has made a comeback with live staged performances. A perfect class for those who are new to acting, memorizing lines and just want to have fun creating live theatre.

Sketch Comedy 101
Date and Time:
Wednesday Evenings, February 5th to April 1st, 2020
7:30 pm to 9 pm

Alex Parkinson

Cost:
$90 Per Student

Description:
Do you have funny ideas constantly rolling around your head and want to see them come to life? Let us teach you how using the fundamentals of sketch comedy. We’ll explore performance and writing techniques to develop wacky characters and turn interesting premises into full-length scenes. Then you and your classmates will perform your best work in a staged reading for friends and family!

Instructor Alex Parkinson is an accomplished comedy writer and performer. He’s written and produced more than 20 video sketches, available on YouTube, including creating, co-writing, and starring in the web series, “Julian Assange’s Embassy Suite.” Alex trained with iO Chicago and Highwire Comedy Co and is a native of Perth, Australia.

Improv

Date and Time:
Monday Evenings, February 3rd to March 30th, 2020

Cost:
$90 Per Student

Description:
Come and experience all that improv can do for you! Increase your overall confidence, expand your creative thinking and guess what? Improv is even a wonderful stress reliever!

In this improv class, we will focus on the following improv principles:

– Learn and practice the creative thinking that goes into the famous improv motto, “Yes/And…”

– Learn how to take a strong point of view and have fun with it

AND

– Learn how to come up with unexpected choices in your improv storylines. 

Course includes 8 weeks of class and a grad show during the last session.

Instructor Kathy Graivier is a part of the improv team, The Awkward Selfies. She has taught workshops in improv to adults and children for man years. She is excited to share her love of improv in the upcoming winter class offerings at Lionheart. Come laugh with her for an hour and a half each week!
