The Rainmaker
by N. Richard Nash

September 7-23, 2018
Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm
Sundays at 2pm
During the Depression era in the Midwest, con man Bill Starbuck acts as a rainmaker but is chased out of town after town. One day, he arrives in a drought-ridden rural town in Texas and shows up at the door of spinsterish Lizzie Curry and the rest of the Curry clan. Lizzie keeps house for her father, H.C., and two brothers on the family cattle ranch. As their farm languishes under the devastating drought, Lizzie’s family worries about her marriage prospects more than about their dying cattle.

Cast
Ben Humphrey (Noah Curry) is thrilled to be making his third appearance at Lionheart, having previously appeared in Moon Over Buffalo and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. He’d like to thank Joanie and the Lionheart team for this opportunity, and his forever-leading-lady Sarah for her support.
Jerry Jobe (Sheriff Thomas) was last seen bumbling around the Lionheart stage in Run for Your Wife, after a hammy, drunken performance in Moon Over Buffalo. (It was the part, not the actor.) Favorite roles include Salieri in Amadeus, Harding in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Phil in Almost Maine. He’s performed all across the north end of Atlanta, from Sugar Hill to Tucker to Marietta. Jerry would like to thank Joanie and all of the cast for letting him play!
Brock Kercher (Bill Starbuck) is excited to make his Lionheart Theatre debut. Previous credits include Murder! At the Strand (Strand Theatre Marietta), Cul-de-sac and The Summer Harvest Ten Minute Play Festival (Onion Man Productions). Brock would like to thank his friends and family for their unconditional love and relentless support.
Chandler Lane (Jim Curry) is an Atlanta-based actor represented by Privilege Talent. Chandler broke into the business in 2014 after he landed a principal role in the film Prayer Never Fails. He also is an aspiring musician and a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Joe McLaughlin (H.C. Curry) has been performing at Lionheart Theatre for over 16 years. His first production with Lionheart was in The Man Who Came to Dinner as Dr. Bradley with our director, Joanie McElroy. His other notable performances at Lionheart have included, Dr. Phillip Gottschall in God’s Man in Texas, Slim in Of Mice and Men and most recently as Victor Fleming in Moonlight and Magnolias. Joe has a degree in Drama and Theatre from the University of Georgia and is delighted to be reunited with Joanie in this production. He also wants to thank his wife, Debbie, for being his rock and best friend.
Gabrielle Stephenson (Lizzie Curry) holds a BA in Theatre from Christopher Newport University and is thrilled to make her Atlanta stage debut with such a talented cast and crew! She recently relocated with her sweet husband from NC, where she performed at a variety of regional and semi-professional theaters, was the resident scenic artist at Burning Coal Theatre in Raleigh, and was a member of the professional a cappella group, Transit. Jackson Trent (File), like the character he plays, is a bit reticent about bios. With that said, he’d like to thank Joanie for the opportunity to get to know File and bring him to life for you. He is also very thankful to get to work with such a talented bunch of folks, both cast and crew, who are serious about their craft. They all deserve a lot of credit for the work they’ve put in to give you a great show. Lastly, he needs to thank his wife Christine, who puts up with a lot, and remains devoted to her and gladly calls her his beloved. Enjoy the show good people. (Psalm 72:4-6)
